About

Practice changes people

The Practice Hall supports developing embodied capability through intentional practice. It draws on the intersection between Chinese martial arts and science, and applies to everyday life: learning, resilience, relationship, leadership and movement.

What practice can change

The Practice Hall is built as a cumulative path, each stage resting on the one before. In the early weeks, grounding practices help you notice support, breath and unnecessary tension more clearly, and recover a steadier state more deliberately.

As practice becomes regular, it grows easier to return from distraction, calibrate your effort, and stay composed as demands rise. In time these foundations begin to draw together: movement becomes more connected, your sensitivity to your own state and to other people sharpens, and you gain more room to adjust, in how you move and in how you meet a difficult conversation, without losing balance or purpose. Progress varies from person to person, but the direction is consistent: qualities first met in practice gradually become more available in everyday life.

Where the approach comes from

Its roots include Chinese martial and contemplative practice, particularly the Five Ancestors tradition of Wuzuquan. The Practice Hall also engages carefully with relevant research in neuroscience and physiology.

Practice and inquiry

It is the applied practice space within the wider mind×body project, where practice traditions and contemporary science are explored through disciplined inquiry.
